Build your Dream First

Build your dream


If you don’t build your dream, someone else will hire you to build theirs. This is a very true and shocking statement.




There was a famous statement “love what you work to work what you love.” I was convinced about this statement. However, after deep thinking, and after I read the statement subject to this post. I realized that in order to work what you love you need to build it yourself first.


All the famous and successful people had their own dreams, and they was and still looking after achieving it. As planning engineers, we spend thousands of hours planning for projects, but did we reserve some time to plan for our lives? I believe most of us plan for two or three steps forward, in construction project management language “Two weeks look ahead schedule”, but what about the life management plan? Rather than spending all your life working for someone, you need to plan for your own business. it is not easy, but it deserve the try.

The judgment is one of the essential skills required in project management. Although project management term could give impression that site engineers or Technical Engineers have nothing to do with it, but we all applying project management concepts even without knowing it. All the project team are using the judgment in their daily works. Judgment to evaluate your work efficiency, judgment to estimate task duration, manpower, or materials. Even judgment to estimate the time required to drive to your work. We cannot live without judgment. Therefore, Do not let your expectation deviate your judgment

Your plan and the reality

Whenever we create a plan, we cannot predict the problems and the challenges we could face to reach our goal.

Creating a project management plan is a challenge to the project management team. Especially to accommodate the changes and the surprises during the project life cycle. Do not expect to cover everything in your original management plan, alternatively create a change management process, which could accommodate any changes and revise the original plan accordingly.

Do not be too confident!

It is good to be confident about your work. However, do not be too confident, just take another look.


Do not be too confident


Being involved on the project management field, especially in the construction planning taught me the value of accuracy. I am dealing with numbers, figures, and percentages. Analyzing huge amount of date in order to report maybe a single number or percentage to my manager.


All my efforts could go away if the final result was wrong. Senior management do not care about what I did, they only care about what they have between their hands. Therefore, I have learned after I finish an important report to take a breath, stay back and maybe doing something else for few moments, then return back to my report as I am reading it for the first time without knowing what is inside.  In this case, most probably, I will find something to edit or tune it up before submitting my final report.


The conclusion: Just give yourself a chance to review your work, before someone else does.
